A-Gas refrigerant and refrigerant recovery cylinders are lent to the refrigeration and air conditioning trade through two national chains of wholesalers.
These are Climate Center and Fridge Spares Wholesale Ltd for further details please see www.climatecenter.co.uk and www.fsw.uk.com A-Gas does not lend cylinders to the general public or directly to the RAC contracting Industry.
All A-Gas cylinders are of the returnable / reusable variety and remain the overall property of A-Gas (UK) Ltd. It is unlikely that cylinders will appear outside of the controlled chain of distribution, which is, A-Gas to the Wholesaler and then to a RAC Contracting firm, who will have the necessary approved national refrigerant handling qualifications. Once the cylinder is used it will be returned through the same chain for correct handling and subsequent re-use, all of which will be on specialised transport. In exceptional circumstances cylinders do occasionally fall outside of the controlled distribution channels. This may occur as a result of the following:
-
Theft from contractor vehicles or theft from premises where refrigerant is stored, sometimes for the potential scrap metal value
-
Cylinders left in premises that have closed or gone out of business
-
Contractors who have ceased trading
A-Gas takes its responsibilities very seriously. The company is committed to the best environmental standards and safe working practices.
If any member of the public comes across an A-Gas cylinder, please contact A-Gas on the FREEPHONE number 0800 7311 444 stating where the cylinder is and a description of what they have found. It would be very useful if a note of the bar code number which should be on the top of the cylinder near the valve is also recorded.
On no account should anyone attempt to open the taps on the valve, or put the cylinder near any sources of heat.
A-Gas operators who deal with your call will agree a correct and suitable plan of action to deal with the cylinder.
Please do not panic. In general the contents of the cylinders are not flammable or explosive and will not release gas unless the valve is opened
